Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has presented a brand-new sport utility vehicle (SUV) to the Chairman of Fresh FM, Dr. Yinka Ayefele, in a gesture of solidarity following the recent fire incident at the station’s Music House headquarters in the Challenge area of Ibadan.
The governor had on Saturday paid a courtesy visit to the radio station to personally assess the extent of the damage caused by the fire outbreak, which affected sections of the broadcast outfit.
During the visit, Makinde commiserated with Ayefele, staff, and listeners of the station, assuring them of his administration’s support in restoring operations fully.
Ayefele, who had been counting his losses after the inferno gutted sections of the Fresh FM complex, was said to have been visibly moved by emotions as the governor represented by the Commissioners for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, handed over the keys to the SUV to him.
Governor Makinde, during the presentation at the Ayefele Music House, Challenge, Ibadan, commended Ayefele for his resilience and contributions to the entertainment industry and media growth in Oyo State.
Otunba Ojo described the singer as “a symbol of perseverance and inspiration to millions of Nigerians.”
“What happened to Fresh FM is a painful experience, but I want to assure you that this government stands with you.
“You have used your talent and resources to inspire, and you have invested heavily in Oyo State. This little token is just our way of saying you are not alone,” the Commissioner said.
Responding, a visibly emotional Ayefele thanked the governor for the unexpected support, saying he had never imagined such a huge gesture in his moment of trial.
He said the governor has transformed his pain to laughter with the gesture, expressing deep gratitude for the car gift.
“I am short of words. I came here heavy-hearted because of the losses we suffered in the fire outbreak, but today Governor Makinde has turned my pain into joy.
“I sincerely appreciate this gift; it means more than just a car to me, it is a reminder that there is hope at the end of every tragedy,” Ayefele said.
