In the early hours of the morning, Thursday 25th July, 2024, a building at 13 Wilson Mba Street, Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, collapsed, leaving at least three bodies in the wreckage.
Our correspondent gathered that others who sustained various degrees of injuries were taken to a nearby hospital for emergency care.
An eyewitness reported that the incident happened at approximately 3:58 a.m while men from the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, were on the scene conducting rescue operations as of the time of publication.
It was also gathered that three terraces that were being built had collapsed
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, who spoke on the incident, said, search and rescue operations began immediately.
“Three adult males were recovered dead, two male adults were rescued alive, and one adult male trapped under the rubble was rescued alive by the LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire service.
“All the six men were site workers. They are receiving pre hospital care on location while SEHMU has been contacted for the remains of the 3 fatalities,” Oke-Osanyitolu confirmed.
Emergency team at the scene of the unfortunate incident, include: Lagos State Rescue and Fire Service, Nigeria Police and other rescue team.
LASEMA’S excavator has been deployed to accelerate the search and rescue operations.
