INEC Reacts To Reports On Release Of 2027 Election Time Table

The Independent National Electoral Commission has dismissed reports claiming that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, describing such information as false and misleading.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, and issued on Friday, the Commission said it had not published any timetable or schedule for the 2027 polls, contrary to claims circulating in some quarters.

INEC stressed that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, noting that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 mandates the Commission to publish a notice of election not later than 360 days before the date fixed for a general election.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to categorically refute reports circulating in some quarters claiming that the Commission has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election.

The Commission wishes to state clearly that this information is false and misleading. INEC has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.
