Ibadan Mayhem: Oyo APC, PDP Trade Blames Over Killings By Suspected Political Thugs
The All Progressives Congress APC in Oyo state has blamed the member representing Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East in the House of Representatives, Honorable Abass Adigun, as being responsible for the reported political violence which claimed some lives at Ile-Tuntun, Ibadan on Thursday day calling on the State Police Command to investigate the ugly incident thoroughly and ensure that those found culpable are made to face the full wrath of the law.
Oyo APC while reacting to the incident through a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said that it was regrettable to note that “some political players still believe in using violence and brigandage against their opponents not minding the consequences of their actions.
“What happened today in Ibadan leaves much to be desired as it was a clear manifestation of the alarm we have been raising for quite some months. Available facts indicate that it was a vase of unprovoked attack against members of our Party (APC) and the attackers were the PDP thugs who operated in broad daylight with unbridled gusto.
“As much as we would not want to prevent the security agents from doing the needful by investigating the incident thoroughly with a view to ascertaining the identities of all the attackers and other accomplices, it is imperative we establish the fundamental point that it was a premeditated onslaught against our members who were holding a strategic meeting ahead of the election coming up on Saturday.
“The exact location of the ugly incident was the Ibadan South East local government secretariat at Iyana Court, Ile-Tuntun Area of Ibadan. Some stalwarts of the APC had gathered to plan ahead of the Saturday poll in relation to deployment and monitoring of poll agents. While the indoor meeting was going on, it was reported that a team of PDP members led by Hon. Adigun (a.k.a Agboworin) emerged from nowhere and they created tension and panic among residents who scampered for safety.
“Eyewitness account had it that gunshots rent the air as Agboworin reported ordered political thugs who came with him to start shooting sporadically at the direction of the APC members who were holding their meeting inside the complex housing our secretariat. At the end of the day, many people were shot at and all campaign vehicles belonging to the APC found around were badly destroyed.
“Information about the casualties recorded is still sketchy but about seven of our members who sustained varying degrees of injury have since been hospitalized. It is on this note that we urge the Commissioner of Police to order a thorough of the incident and also ensure that such incident is prevented in future.” Oyo APC stated.
In another development The Oyo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that the killing of its ward 10 councilor in Ibadan South East local government by suspected All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs has confirmed it’s series of security alerts.
This was as the party maintained that it has been justified with the gruesome killing of the PDP Councilors and two others which the party said represents a tip of the iceberg of what was coming from the Oyo APC and it’s Governorship candidate, Folarin, who would stop at nothing to become governor at all cost.
The ruling PDP disclosed that it had at several times raised security alerts to concerned authorities to beam searchlight on the governorship candidate of the APC in Oyo state, Senator Teslim Folarin following brazen display of a sharp sword which under the law is an deadly weapon at one of his political rallies.
Akeem Olatunji, the Publicity Secretary of PDP in Oyo state, in a press statement on Thursday evening said, the gruesome killing of Sulaiman Ariyibi, Councilor representing ward 10 at the Ibadan South East Local Government parliament, has confirmed it’s earlier position that Oyo APC governorship candidate, Senator Folarin was about to unleash his killer squad on innocent electorates.
It was earlier reported in a section of the online media as confirmed by the Oyo state Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Oyo state Police command, SP Adewale Osifeso, the killing of three in Ibadan on Thursday.
Earlier, while addressing journalists at the state Hospital, Adeoyo, Ring Road, Ibadan, where the bodies of the deceased were taken by PDP members, the serving federal lawmaker representing Ibadan South East/North East federal constituency at the national assembly, Hon. Abass Adigun popularly known as Agboworin had described the incident as tragic and shocking.
He called on the police to carry out a thorough investigation in order to bring culprits to justice while alleging that Oyo state chapter of APC has taken the coming election as a do or die affairs.
“This is politics, you’re expected to sell your ideas to the people and wait for them to decide at the polls, what we are already witnessing in Oyo state with today’s event is worse than just a brazen show of beastly act but a tip of the iceberg of a Satanic agenda that’s coming if the people allowed it.
“In our PDP, we can only focus on spreading the gospel of Governor Makinde’s good governance and unwavering commitment to the development of Oyo state through human capital development as well as provisions of social amenities that make life comfortable for the people.”
