House Of Reps Member, L & K, Sponsors Bills To Establish Federal Institutions In Osun

A Bill for an Act to establish a federal University of Agriculture, Bode-Osi, Ola-Oluwa local government sponsored by the member representing Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency of Osun State, Hon. Mudasiru Lukman (L&K) has passed the first reading at the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Speaking after the passage of the bill at the plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, Lukman explained that Ola-Oluwa local government is known as the “Food Basket” of Osun State and as an agrarian community, a College of Agriculture was desirable in the area to promote sound and practical agricultural training as a foundation for food security and national development.

He also pushed forward, a bill seeking the establishment of the Federal College of Fisheries and Aquaculture Studies in Oluponna, Ayedire local government.

He stressed the need for knowledge acquisition in the agricultural sector and stated that Osun state was known for its agricultural exploits, hence the need for establishing the College of Fisheries and Aquaculture to ensure the teeming and future agriculturalists can acquire needed knowledge in industrial aquaculture practice.

According to him, his Constituency has the largest land mass in Osun state, establishing such institutions will bring about good development in the country.

“The Bill if passed into law, will have the sole mandate of offering academic and professional programmes leading to the award of Diplomas, Higher National Diplomas, and other deserving certificates that emphasize planning, adaptive, technical, maintenance, developmental, and productive skills in Fisheries, Aquaculture, agriculture, agricultural engineering, and allied professional disciplines to produce socially mature persons with capacity to improve on those disciplines and develop new ones, but also to contribute to the scientific transformation of agriculture in Nigeria” He said.

Lukman further said the two Bills were very personal to him as they directly affect his people and Nigerians at large.

The bills were voted on, passed for first reading, and referred to the Committee on Federal Colleges and Institutions by the Speaker for further legislative action.
