To mark his 60th birthday, Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa has pardoned 40 convicts from recommendations of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy
The commissioner for justice and the state attorney general, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo announced this in Akure.
He explained that among the beneficiaries, 15 convicts would be given outright release effective from January 12, 2025 , some death sentences would be commuted to life imprisonment, while others would see their terms of incarceration reduced.
Dr Ajulo who chairs the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy disclosed that the steps underscored the governor’s dedication to a justice system that prioritizes reform over retribution.
