Fresh Crises In PDP As Fayose Drags Party, Atiku To Court

An Abuja businessman and Politician, Mr Isaac Fayose has dragged the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic party, PDP, Mr Iyorchia Ayu and the Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to the Federal High court sitting in Abuja.

In the suit filed by his counsels, A.AKPOFURE, T.E EKEKWE, Mr Fayose is challenging the decision of the party to retain Mr Ayu as it’s National Chairman after the emergence of Alhaji Abubakar as the presidential flag bearer for the 2023 general elections.

According to the the suit, Mr Fayose is asking the court to determine whether the respondents were not violating the 1999 constitution as amended, as well as, the federal character, bearing in mind that Mr Ayu and Atiku Abubakar were both from the Northern region.

Mr Fayose also questioned the rotation system and zoning formula of the current leadership of the PDP, stressing that it did not reflect the party’s constitution.

Mr Fayose, through the suit, however requested for a court injunction to restrain Mr Ayu from being the National Chairman of the party pending the conduct of an emergency National Convention to elect a new chairman from the Southern region.
