The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Southwest has disclosed that residential buildings, shops, household items, fish ponds, poultry and other valuables worth millions of naira were destroyed by flood in Oluyole local government area of Oyo state.
NEMA Southwest Zonal coordinator, Mr Kadiri Olanrewaju made this known while giving report of the assessment exercise to stakeholders in Ibadan.
Represented by the assistant Zonal coordinator, Kazeem Olanrewaju, the NEMA boss said a number of electric poles were damaged, many households displaced while shop owners were already counting their loses.
He listed the affected areas to include Agara Community, Oyalami and Akorede Market, Odo-Ona kekere.
He said “The assessment team led by the AZC South West Zone who represented the Zonal Coordinator had among the team SEMA, Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, Ministry of Environment, LEMC Oluyole LG, Community Leaders , Market Leaders in attendance.
“The team lead commiserated with the affected population and urged them to embrace Disaster Risk Reduction Strategies.
“Residential buildings , Fences, Shops. Household items, Fish ponds, poultry and other valuables worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
“Lots of Electric poles were also damaged and many houses had electric wires lying on their roofing.
“Many households were displaced and Shop owners counting their loses.
“The affected population appealed to the government for assistance while permanent structural solution is expected to end the menace .
