Court Jails Cattle Herder In Oyo Town

For inflicting severe cutlass attacks on a man in Afijio local government area of Oyo state, a cattle herder, Tijani Abubakar has bagged six months jail sentence at a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Oyo town.

Police prosecutor, Abel Christopher told the court that the accused attacked one Muhammad Saliu for refusing him free grazing of his cows on a farm land near Awe.

The offence which was reportedly committed on January 7 this year subsequently led to the arrest and charging of the accused to court.

The herder’s cutlass and photographs of the victim in a pool of his own blood were among exhibits tendered in court.

In her judgement, trial Magistrate, Giwa Balogun gave the accused option of one hundred thousand naira payment as fine or six months community service as a first time offender and considering his wife’s plea for mercy.
