Akeem Babatunde Abass has emerged as the new Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.
Abass secured a total of 143 votes to defeat his closest rivals — the outgoing State Secretary of the union, Mr. Sola Oladapo, who garnered 59 votes, and Mr. Raji Adebayo, who polled 118 votes.
A total of five votes were declared void at the end of the keenly contested election.
Akeem will now be taking over from Ademola Babalola who has been the chairman of the Union since 2019.
Other newly elected executives are Mr Dayo Adu from FRCN as secretary, Mr Moses Morenikeji (FRCN) as treasurer, and Abiodun Atilola (Information Chapel) as vice chairman
