OYOWMA Boss Reemphasizes Sept 1 Waste Bin Deadline, Urges Residents to Patronize Designated Contractors

The Oyo State Waste Management Authority (OYOWMA) has issued a strict reminder to residents across the state regarding proper waste disposal practices, setting Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as the deadline for every household to acquire a standard refuse drum and register with assigned waste contractors.
Speaking during a live appearance on the radio program *”Layika Wa”* on Adanimogo 105.1 FM, Ibadan, the General Manager of OYOWMA, Engr. Adewale Afolabi, emphasized that failure to comply with the directive constitutes a direct violation of state environmental regulations (“ó tì lù òfin ìjọba”).
Engr. Afolabi educated the public on proper waste management protocols, advising residents to engage only the accredited refuse contractors zoned to their respective Local Government Areas through designated waste consultants.
“We are urging all residents to support the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Environment, OYOWMA, and the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration in keeping Oyo State clean, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing,” Afolabi stated.
The General Manager was accompanied on the program by top management staff of the authority and the waste consultants overseeing waste collection across all local governments in the state.
