Meet the Elero of Ileroland, HRM Oba Wasiu Oyedele Saka, Olokolonigi II

His Royal Majesty, Oba Wasiu Oyedele Saka, Olokolonigi II, the Elero of Ileroland in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, was born on August 12, 1970, at Olufunmilayo Street, Mushin, Lagos State.

At the age of six, the young Prince Wasiu commenced his formal education at Odu Abore Primary School, Iyalla street, Mushin, during the 1976/1977 academic session.

While in Primary Four, he, alongside some other pupils, was transferred to Ladipo Primary School, Mushin, Lagos, where he continued his education through Primary Four and Five, as this movement was sequel to building of many schools across the state by former Governor of Lagos State, late Lateef Jakande, to avoid congestion of pupils in classes and at large aid smooth acquisition of knowledge.

For his Primary Six education, his father took him to Igboora, his paternal grandmother’s town, where he completed his primary education at African Church Primary School, Pako Igboora, Oyo State.

In pursuit of his secondary education, he gained admission into Igboora High School in 1983 and successfully completed his secondary education in 1988.

Following the completion of his secondary education, he returned to Lagos, where his parents were residing. Although his paternal grandmother hailed from Igboora, his grandfather was from Ilero, while his mother is from Saki. These ancestral connections further strengthened his bond with the people and heritage of Ileroland.

As a young man, Oba Wasiu ventured into business, building on his passion for fashion and enterprise.

As a fashionista and businessman, he specialised in the wholesale supply of men’s wears and jewellery, supplying customers and traders in Benin and various parts of Northern Nigeria.

He later joined his father’s business and developed a keen interest in furniture and interior decoration.

He worked with C.F.C Furniture and Interior Decoration Company, where he gained valuable experience in interior decoration, and also served as a special staff at other top engineering companies in Lagos. While engaging with these businesses and acquiring practical experience, he continued to manage and develop his own commercial interests.

His entrepreneurial spirit also saw him invest in the procurement of tricycles, which he made available to individuals through instalmental payment arrangements.

Through this venture and his demonstrated commitment to the welfare of his colleagues, he became the Branch Chairman of the Tricycles Owners/Operators’ Association of Nigeria in Shomolu/ Bariga while holding a welfare officer at the association’s State Council Office in Abule Egba, Lagos.

His emergence and leadership in these positions were largely attributed to his good character, integrity, generosity and demonstrated concern for the welfare and progress of others.

In furtherance of his academic pursuits, Oba Wasiu gained admission into Lagos State Polytechnic, Surulere, where he studied Business Administration. His educational background, combined with his extensive business experience and exposure to people from diverse backgrounds, further strengthened his leadership qualities.

He subsequently got married and was blessed with children, building a family founded on strong values and responsibility.

When the stool of the Elero of Ileroland became vacant, Oba Wasiu Oyedele Saka was called upon to ascend the revered traditional throne.

He was officially installed as the Elero of Ileroland on July 24, 2018, and subsequently received the Staff of Office, marking the commencement of his reign as the custodian of the ancient town’s traditional heritage and values.

Since his ascension to the throne, the ancient town of Ileroland has continued to witness notable progress. under his leadership.

His reign has been associated with growing interest in agriculture, economic activities, commerce and other areas of community development.

Under his leadership, the population of the community has continued to increase, while the town has expanded in size and economic activities. The impact of government programmes and interventions is also increasingly being felt across various sectors.

As Olokolonigi II, Oba Wasiu Oyedele Saka continues to combine his rich business experience, educational background, traditional responsibilities and commitment to the welfare of his people in advancing the development and prosperity of Ileroland.

The Monarch as a lover of education, keeps preaching that education is the best legacy and why he continues with different engagements to ensure that pupils and students regardless of status in the community are not roaming around but keep busy in their respective schools.
