OYOWMA Chairman, Adeniyi Biiro, Commends Governor Makinde, Security Agencies for Rescue of Abducted Oriire Pupils, Teachers
The Chairman of the Oyo State Waste Management Authority (OYOWMA), Hon. Adeniyi Akanbi Biiro, has expressed profound gratitude and commended the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, alongside Nigeria’s joint security agencies, for the successful rescue of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.
The 46 victims, comprising 39 pupils and seven teachers, were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, when heavily armed terrorists stormed three schools within the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire.
Their safe return on Friday night ended a grueling 56-day ordeal that had gripped the state and nation.
In a statement released on Saturday Hon. Adeniyi Akanbi Biiro lauded Governor Makinde for his unwavering commitment, resilience, and tactical patience throughout the crisis.
He noted that the governor’s refusal to succumb to the “quick-fix” option of paying hefty ransoms or yielding to the terrorists’ blackmails protected the ultimate sovereignty of the state.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has once again demonstrated what true, empathetic, and resolute leadership looks like,” Biiro stated. “Managing a crisis of this magnitude for nearly two months without compromising the safety of these young children or the integrity of the state is a monumental achievement.”

The OYOWMA boss further praised the coordinated efforts of the Nigerian Army (specifically the 2 Division, Ibadan), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.
