N9m Outstanding Debt: Oyo NUJ Calls Out Akewugbagold

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has expressed disappointment over the failure of Alhaji Taofeek Akewugbagold to fully redeem his financial obligation to the union, revealing that only ₦2 million has been paid out of the ₦11 million owed despite assurances that the debt would be settled before the end of April 2026.

The union, at its monthly congress held on Saturday at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, said Akewugbagold should honour his commitment and immediately pay the outstanding balance to avoid legal action. The resolution formed part of the communiqué issued at the end of the congress presided over by the State Chairman, Mr. Akeem Abas.

Congress also expressed deep concern over the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, urging security agencies and government authorities to intensify efforts toward the safe and immediate rescue of all victims.

It commended the steps taken so far but stressed the need for greater deployment of resources, intelligence and operational strategies to secure their release.

Oyo NUJ further condemned the rising cases of kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities across the state, calling for proactive measures to tackle insecurity.
