JUST IN: LG Chairman, Ibrahim Akintayo Announces Governorship Ambition, Pledges Continuity In Oyo

The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).


Hon. Akintayo made his ambition known on Thursday when he appeared before the Oyo State PDP Governorship Screening Committee.

Following the screening process, he proceeded to make an official declaration before party loyalists and supporters at a gathering held within the Ibadan North Local Government area.

In a statement conveying his intention, the council chairman said he was stepping forward with “deep humility and a strong sense of responsibility” to seek the party’s ticket for the 2027 gubernatorial race.

He noted that his tenure as Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government has been defined by dedication, integrity, and a clear focus on grassroots development.

According to him, his administration has delivered impactful projects and implemented people-oriented policies that have improved the welfare of residents.

Akintayo further stated that his experience in public administration, leadership, and governance has equipped him with the capacity to lead the state effectively.

He added that his record of prudent resource management and inclusive governance has earned him widespread support at the grassroots level.

Expressing confidence in his ambition, the PDP chieftain said his connection with the people and his performance in office position him as a strong contender capable of leading the party to victory in the 2027 election.

He also pledged to sustain and expand the developmental strides of Governor Seyi Makinde, noting that the current administration has laid a solid foundation in infrastructure, economic growth, and good governance.

“I am committed to building on the achievements of this administration and ensuring continuity of purposeful leadership that will take Oyo State to greater heights,” he said.
