The Oyo State Police Command has foiled a planned attack on Elebe Village in the Aleniboro area via Irawo Mine, neutralising two suspected bandits during an intelligence-led operation.
Police say the operation followed credible information from a resident who alerted security operatives to the presence of about ten armed men allegedly plotting to attack the community under the cover of darkness.
The suspects were reportedly armed with two AK-47 rifles, single-barrel guns and cut-to-size locally made pistols.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the Divisional Police Officer of Tede Division briefed the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, who ordered the immediate deployment of additional operational assets to the area.
“Police operatives, working with local hunters in Aleniboro, mobilised to the identified hideout.
“On sighting the advancing team, the suspects reportedly opened fire, leading to a gun duel during which two of the suspects were neutralised, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
“A reinforcement patrol later recovered a locally made pistol, cartridges, expended 7.62mm ammunition shells, substances suspected to be Indian hemp and two mobile phones.
“The area has since been secured, while bush combing and surveillance operations continue.
The Commissioner of Police also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his support and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through appropriate channels.
