About seven inmates have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Center in Ilesa, Osun State, following the collapse of part of the prison wall.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, created an opportunity for the prisoners to flee the premises undetected.

Radio Nigeria Correspondent reports that the it was uncertain if the collapse was triggered by environmental factors or was intentionally orchestrated.

Confirming the incident, The Controller General of Corrections, CGC, Sylvester Nwakuche, through the Deputy Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar said the facility had launched an expansive manhunt following the rainfall that breached the security of its facility in ilesa.
Controller Nwakuche has also ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
He assured that the service is working closely with sister security agencies as well as community leaders to recapture the escapees and bring them back to custody.
