Federal Workers and public primary and secondary schools in Oyo state have complied with the strike action declared by Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, over the new national minimum wage.
Meanwhile, there is partial compliance with the strike action at the Oyo state Secretariat as workers enter freely due to non-closure of the gate.
According to Radio Nigeria, the situation at the Federal Secretariat in Ibadan has it that all ministries have been shut down except for emergency workers like the Federal Fire Service.
A top official of the Fire Service, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated that it was necessary for them to be on duty as a paramilitary body in case of emergency situations.
Similarly, government owned primary and secondary schools in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital have been closed.
At Oladipo Alayande School of Science, Ibadan Boys High School, Oke Bola, Emmanuel Grammar School, U.I, reports that students who arrived their schools for their academic work were directed to go home while the main gates leading to the school premises were locked.
The closure according to newsmen led to most of the affected students returning home while others use the opportunity to engage in football game.
At Ibadan Boys ‘ High School, most of the classrooms were closed while few teachers and students seating for their physics practicals in the ongoing West African Examination Council WAEC were seen in the school ‘s laboratory.
In an interview, the chairman of the Trade Union Congress,TUC, Oyo state chapter Bosun Olabiyi said the proposed 60 thousand naira new minimum wage by the federal government is unrealistic.
