Nigeria’s vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has restated government’s continuous commitment to addressing factors mitigating against quality healthcare delivery in the country.
Professor Osinbajo made this known at an event to commission projects and officially unveil the remodelling of University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan midwife by the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs
He explained that there were still vacuums in the nation’s health delivery system, which he attributed to inadequate quality of care available, equipment and facilities as well as disparity between health budget and expenditure.
Speaking, senior special assistant to the president on Sustainable Development Goals, (SDGs). Dr Adejole Adefulire described the projects as a testament of Federal Government’s commitment to improving the health sector and wellbeing of Nigerians.
Earlier, Chief Medical Director, UCH, Professor Jesse Otegbayo in an address of welcome, described the inauguration of the project as landmark in the over sixty five years of the existence of UCH, Ibadan.
Professor Otegbayo who said the projects represented a significant contribution from the Federal Government, expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, (SDGs). Dr Adejole Adefulire who facilitated the rehabilitation.
“Furthermore, I want to place on record the onerous efforts of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDG’s and the Federal government for their support and the various roles they played leading to the successful completion of these projects. I also wish to remark on the commitmentand determination of the various contractors in ensuring timely completion of the projects which has made today’s event a reality. To you all I say a big thank you.”
The Prof Otegbayo said contractors that undertook the remodeling, rehabilitation and the restructuring of the Hospital moved to site in December, 2020 while work commenced in January, 2021 and was completed in March, 2023.
Newsarena.ng reports that some of the work done included rehabilitation works on East Block, Finance & Accounts, General Administration and Nursing offices, East 1 Ward, East 2 Ward, East 3 Ward and Special Baby Care Unit
Others are South East Block – Otunba Tunwase Children Emergency Ward, South East 1Ward. South East 2 Ward, South East 3 Ward and South East 4 Ward.
“Rehabilitation at Central Block: comprising the key Room, Metabolic Research Laboratory, Disease Surveillance Unit, CMD and CMAC’s Offices, General Security Office, Chief Security Officer’s Office, Board Room Toilet, Director of Administration Office, C1Ist Ward, MDCAN Secretariat, Bilirubin Laboratory, C12nd Ward, Clinic Pharmacology Ward, C14th Ward, Medical Museum, Call Rooms and the Penthouse”
“Southwest Block: (Medical Microbiology Floor, Southwest1 Ward, Southwest Ward, North West Block: Eyitayo Lambo Ward, North West Ward, North West Ward, North and and Suites.”
“Mortuary/Adminstrative Block: CSSD Unit, Main Theatre Suites, Human Resource Kitchen/Laundry Block.”
“Radiology Block comprising the Central X-Ray, the Ophthalmology theatre. The ECG Installations: 5 new patients’ elevators 400 solar powered fence at entrance of Hospital.
“Refurbishing over 100 toilets both the clinics, wards and Offices. Provision of hospital beds, mattresses, bedside lockers and chairs, television sets refrigerators wards, offices of Hospital. Painting major areas hospital as well as the stone ramps in the Hospital”
