The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Oyo state says there are over Nine hundred and forty-seven thousand uncollected permanent voter cards, PVCs in Oyo state as at Tuesday, 10th of this month.
INEC Head of voter education, Oyo state, Mrs Rosemary Adeniyi disclosed this in a telephone interview with Newsarena.ng correspondent in Ibadan.
Mrs Adeniyi who expressed concern at the number of uncollected PVCs in Oyo state said there are low turnout of registrants for the collection despite the devolution of the exercise to registration centres at the ward levels
She said the essence of the distribution of PVCs at registration centres was to move it closer to the people to allow them have access to the collection seemlessly.
“Not enough people are coming out to collect their PVCs, Nine hundred and forty-seven thousand, Four hundred and Sixty two, as at 10th of January, 2023.” She said
The INEC Head of voter education explained that the commission has embarked on the Use of social media platforms, stakeholders meeting at different zones of the state to sensitize the people on the essence of the exercise.
She urged members of the public to use the opportunity of the distribution of the PVCs at registration centres to collect their cards for them to exercise their franchise in the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections as well as the gubernatorial/state assembly polls in March.
