2023: INEC, Political Parties, Others Meet In Ibadan, Express Readiness For Saturday’s Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Political Parties, security agencies and civil society organizations in Oyo state have expressed their readiness for a peaceful conduct of the much awaited 2023 general election..

This formed part of resolutions at an enlarged stakeholders meeting held in Ibadan towards a successful conduct of the forthcoming 2023 general election.

The enlarged stakeholders meeting which had in attendance, representatives of security agencies, political parties, Interparty Advisory Council, IPAC, religious leaders, civil society organizations and the national orientation agency, NOA was in preparation of this Saturday’s elections.

A cross section of the participants believed that with the level of preparation by INEC and security agencies in the state, the elections would be peaceful and credible.

Two members of different political parties in Oyo state, Mr Gbeminiyi Ayodele and Alhaji Tajudeen Olanife as well as the representative of the youth council, Mr Qudri Olusegun said despite the scarcity of fuel and cash presently being experienced by Nigerians critical stakeholders were resolved to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls

Other stakeholders who spoke with newsarena.ng appealed to INEC to remain neutral and provide level playing ground for all parties.

The stakeholders urged politicians to shealt their swords and educate their followers on the importance of maintaining peace at voting centres.

Speaking on behalf of other security agencies in the state, Commissioner of Police, Mr Adebowale Williams, represented by ACP Elkanem Umen, said the rank and files of the Oyo state police command have been trained according to electoral act for a peaceful conduct of the polls

Earlier, Residents Electoral Commissioner in Oyo state, Dr Adeniran Tella who assured residents of free and credible polls, disclosed that non sensitive materials have been received and deployed to all INEC Local Government Area Offices across the state.

Dr Tella said for an inclusive 2023 General Election, materials such as Braille Ballot Guide, transcribed voter information for the blind, magnifying glasses for the albinos and posters for hard to hear electorate have been provided.
