The Registrar and Chief Executive, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN, Prof. Olusegun Ajiboye has challenged teachers to embrace technology in order to make meaningful contribution to the development of the education sector
Profeasor Ajiboye stated this during the maiden induction of teachers from the Federal College of Education, Special, Oyo by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.
He noted that the teaching profession has changed from being an all – comers job.
While emphasizing the need for teachers to see themselves as key players in the revamping education sector, Prof. Ajiboye charged the inductees to prepare for challenges facing the profession, saying “technology would not replace them, rather it would be of assistance.”
The Registrar called on government, parents and other stakeholders to avoid blame game whenever a crack is discovered within the system.
Also charging the newly inducted teachers, Chairman of the College Induction committee, Dr. Olugbenga Ojebisi urged them to see their induction as a unique calling, loaded with great responsibility of inculcating quality education and moral values to the younger generation.
Dr. Ojebisi expressed confidence in the ability of the inductees to contribute their quota to the development of education in Nigeria and beyond, having been equipped with necessary global professional and teaching skills.
Dr. Ojebisi however expressed concern over attacks on teachers and the teaching profession in recent times, wondering why teachers are easily blamed for students failure, and are rarely praised when students earn glory and honor.
In a remark, Provost, Federal College of Education Special, Oyo, Prof. Kamoru Usman commended the existing relationship between TRCN and his college, describing it as highly beneficial.
A total of nine hundred and sixty three N.C.E, Bachelors degree and post graduate diploma holders gained certification as professional teachers with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, including those living with disabilities.
