Five people have been detained by Ekiti State Police Command agents for suspected fake kidnapping and conspiracy.
According to reports, the suspects planned a false kidnapping to demand money, but bad luck conspired against them.
The Ekiti State Police Command’s spokesperson, Mr. Sunday Abutu, who confirmed this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, promised that the suspects would face legal action.
“The Command received a complaint from one Adelana Ayomikun that his wife, Adelana Oyetuyi, his twin sister, Odeyemi Kehinde, and his three children, aged one, two, and three years, had been abducted by unidentified armed men along the Ise/Ikere-Ekiti road,” reads the statement.
In addition, the complainant described how the kidnappers called him and demanded a ransom of 100 million naira, according to Mr. Abutu.
According to the police spokesperson, the callers were really the supposed victims when the Command Rapid Response Squad investigators were led to the culprits’ hiding place in Ikirun, Osun State.
Azeez Misitura, Adelana Taiwo, Odeyemi Kehinde, Alhaji Oseni Isah, and Hammed Wasiu are the suspects detained in connection with the incident.
He claimed that during questioning, the suspects admitted planning and staging the kidnapping in order to obtain money to settle a debt owed by Adelana Taiwo and Odeyemi Kehinde.
