Thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Alliance for Democracy (AD), and other political structures in the state have joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde.
At the Multipurpose Court of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Governor Makinde welcomed the defectors and reassured them of their equality in the party.
He affirmed that the PDP will provide equal benefits to all defectors and urged party members to cooperate in order to ensure the PDP’s success in all 2023 elections.
He said “I also revealed that our official slogan for the election campaigns is Omituntun 2.0. Working together, we will ensure that there is continuity of good governance for the people of Oyo State.”
The PDP’s state chairman, Mr. Dayo Ogungbenro, expressed gratitude to the defectors for joining the party and noted that the PDP “believes in equity.”
Additionally, he voiced his belief that the PDP family will not marginalize the defectors.
Leaders of the defecting politicians praised Governor Makinde for governing Oyo State well in their respective statements, even as they swore allegiance to the PDP.
The leaders included a former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, who also represented Oyo Central in the Senate, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, from the ADC, Pastor Akin Alamu who led the AD contingent, a former governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC, Mogaji Joseph Tegbe, former Chairman State Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim Wing), under the last administration, Sheik Taofeek Akewugbagold, and the leader of the Liberation Alliance Movement and former Commissioner under the defunct ACN administration, Pastor Taiwo Otegbeye.
The event attracted the presence of top government officials and PDP chieftains from across the state.
