Oyo Police Commissioner Wades Into Scarcity Of Naira, Fuel Commodity

As part of efforts to reduce crises caused by the scarcity of fuel and cash, oyo state police command has met with critical stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the menace.

The security summit held at the police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan comprises representatives of all security agencies, CBN officers, IPMAN and other security personnel.

The commissioner of police in Oyo state, Mr Adebowale Williams said the security summit became imperative as part of measures to reduce the crises caused by the scarcity of cash and fuel before it escalated to a bigger problem.

Mr Williams said the duty of the Police was to enforce all laws, ensure peace, arrest and prosecute perpetrators of crimes.

He noted that the recent events in the country call for an extension of the cooperation and understanding being enjoyed in Oyo State to help improve upon the duties of protection of lives and property and at the same time preserve law and order.

He added that though people have rights to peaceful protest, there are times people crossed certain lines especially when given into the hands agents of violence that hijack the process for obvious criminal reasons

On her part, the Oyo State Zonal coordinator, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mrs Foluke Oluduro said it was sad that people were facing issues before they could access their money.

She noted that the CBN was doing all it could to reduce the current stress on naira scarcity.

Mrs Oluduro who urged people to remain calm, said the apex bank has re-strategised it’s plans to ensure that more money were released to the public.

Chief of staff of Independent Petroleum marketers of Nigeria,  Ipman, ibadan depot, Mr Bayo Adeyemo said they have to rely on Lagos State depot before they could get the commodity which has not been easy to get.

He said all the heads of  IPMAN in Oyo state were in Lagos struggling to ensure the availability of premium motor spirit, pms for members of the public

On his parts, Oyo state chairman, point of sales, POS, operators, Mr Adeyemo Sherif said they use money commission to buy cash from bankers which he said was responsible for higher charges on customers transactions.

The event had in attendance Representatives from National Orientation Agency, NOA, market Leaders, Artisans and Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC.
