The Oyo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters has expressed its condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde over the passing of his elder brother, Engineer Sunday Makinde.
In a statement released by the Honorable Commissioner for LG and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, the ministry described Chief Sunday Makinde’s death as a great loss, not only to the Makinde family but also to the entire state.
Otunba Ojo popularly called ‘Ijaya’, extolled the virtues of the Governor’s late elder brother, noting his significant contributions to the development of Ibadanland and Oyo State at large.
“Chief Sunday Makinde was a man of integrity and a pillar of support to the Makinde family. His legacy of humility, kindness, and dedication to the growth of Aigbofa family and Ibadanland will not be forgotten.
“On behalf of the entire ministry, we extend our deepest sympathies to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the entire Makinde family during this difficult time,” Otunba Ojo stated.
The late Chief Sunday Makinde, a respected Engineer, devoted Christian, and community leader, passed away on Friday after a brief illness.
He was known for his philanthropic efforts and his commitment to promoting unity and progress in Ibadanland.
The ministry urged the Makinde family to take solace in the knowledge that Chief Sunday Makinde lived an impactful and fulfilled life.
The ministry also called on the people of Oyo State to join hands in supporting the governor and his family through prayers and messages of encouragement.
The Oyo Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters reaffirmed its support for Governor Makinde, urging him to stay strong as he continues to steer the affairs of the state.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Your Excellency. May God grant you the fortitude to bear this loss,” the statement concluded.
