The Oyo State Government has announced intentions to launch an integrated measles campaign for kids between the ages of 9 months and 5 years this month through its primary health care board.
At a press conference, Dr. Muyideen Olatunji, executive secretary of the State Primary Health Care Board, announced that the vaccine campaign would cover all thirty-three local government areas in the state and start on October 20, 2022.
Speaking on behalf of the board’s director of public health, Dr. Johnson Osoko said that in addition to the measles vaccine, the exercise will also include the Covid-19 vitamin A supplement, polio, and other vaccines.
He reassured the general population that administering the immunizations was entirely safe.
The notion of including other health interventions into the vaccination exercise, the executive secretary continued, was strategically planned in keeping with the state government’s desire to assure the provision of high-quality healthcare to the general populace.
Also, the programme manager, state emergency and routine coordination centre, Dr Adeyemi Adewole noted that officials for the mass measles vaccination campaign have been well trained and would be working under adequate supervision.
Dr Adewole added that there would be fixed posts and mobile points for effective coverage.
In their various goodwill messages, representatives from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), UNICEF, WHO and other partners were harped on the need for collaboration to ensure reduction in infant mortality and morbidity rate in the state
