Ondo Residents Beg Gov. Akeredolu As 24-Hour Curfew Enters Day 6

Residents of Ikare-Akoko in the Akoko Northeast Local Government of Ondo State have begun to feel the effects of the 24-hour curfew, which has now entered six days.

Residents have begged Rotimi Akeredolu, the state governor, to lift the curfew.

According to reports the governor imposed the curfew following a communal dispute that resulted in the deaths of five people, the burning of six vehicles, buildings, and shops, as well as the theft of stores.

A heavy security presence was reportedly noticed in the community.

Also, security officers only allowed people seeking medical attention to move around, reports The Nation.

While schools across the state have resumed for a new academic term, schools in Ikare-Akoko are shut owing to the curfew.

Crisis erupted in the community after a New Year carnival turned bloody over the use of Okoja area for the ceremony.
