The programme, announced in a statement signed by the Council Secretary, Dayo Adu, is themed: “Celebrating the Past, Defending the Present and Shaping the Future.”

According to the statement, activities lined up for the week-long celebration include church thanksgiving, the opening ceremony, anniversary lectures, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Day, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Day, Family and Veterans’ Day, Jumat service and the grand finale.
The Council described the Diamond Jubilee as a significant milestone in the history of the union, providing an opportunity to reflect on its journey, celebrate its contributions to journalism and strengthen its commitment to professional ethics and responsible journalism.
It called on members across the state to take note of the scheduled activities, dates and venues as contained in the official anniversary programme and participate actively in the celebration.
The NUJ Oyo State Council also expressed its expectation that members’ participation would contribute to making the 60th anniversary and 2026 Press Week memorable.
The week-long celebration is expected to bring together journalists, media practitioners, stakeholders and other dignitaries to celebrate six decades of the union’s activities and contributions to the media profession in Oyo State.
