APM Chieftain Olopoeyan Mocks Makinde Over Jumping Display, Says He Should Prepare for Olympics, Not Presidency

A chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adebisi Olopoeyan, has mocked Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his jumping display at the party’s South-West Town Hall meeting in Akure, Ondo State, saying the governor should prepare for the next Olympic Games rather than aspire to become Nigeria’s president.

Olopoeyan’s comment followed Makinde’s energetic display at the political gathering, which the APM chieftain used to take a swipe at the governor’s presidential ambition.

The APM chieftain questioned the significance of the display in the context of Makinde’s reported interest in the nation’s highest political office, arguing that jumping at a political event should not be confused with the qualities required of a president.

By invoking the Olympics, Olopoeyan turned the governor’s display into a subject of political mockery, suggesting that Makinde’s energy would be better suited to a sporting competition than a presidential contest.

The remarks add to the political exchanges surrounding Makinde as conversations about possible contenders and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to attract attention.

Olopoeyan’s criticism also reflects the use of public appearances and gestures as political talking points, with opponents seeking to interpret such moments in ways that challenge the image and ambitions of their rivals.

For Makinde, the episode presents another round of commentary around his political future, while Olopoeyan’s remarks place the governor’s jumping display at the centre of his criticism of the presidential ambition attributed to him.

The APM chieftain’s central message was that a presidential aspiration should be judged on more than a public show of energy, using the Olympics comparison to ridicule Makinde’s display and question his suitability for the presidency.
