Family of Six Murdered Over Damaged Phone as Oyo Police Parade Suspects

The Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command has paraded suspects arrested in connection with three separate criminal cases, including the alleged gruesome murder of a family of six in Lagelu to avenge a phone that was allegedly damaged by the husband

Other crimes connected to some of the suspects include armed robbery at Moniya, another murder at Wofun Olodo, Ibadan, and the operation of an illegal medical practice by a suspected quack doctor.

The three suspects arrested at Lagelu included Hammed Akinbami, Ojo Akinbami and Padonu Edward — were arrested over an attack on a family at Oloba Village, Lagelu Local Government Area.

Police said the suspects allegedly invaded the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children, armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club to avenge his phone that was allegedly damaged by ifeanyi.

The suspects allegedly robbed the family of two hundred thousand naira, a motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine, while four members of the family were killed with a wooden club.

According to the suspects, two children of the family were dragged to osun River, tie their legs and hands before throwing them into the river.

Police said the remains of the wife have been recovered, while efforts are continuing to recover the remains of the other victims.

In a separate case, three suspected members of an armed robbery gang including Oluwatobi Akinrinola , Mathew Okunola and Ibrahim Rabiu were arrested over a robbery attack at Wofun Olodo, Ibadan, in which 44-year-old Mrs Wahab Rukayat was killed. The Police said the suspects allegedly carted away mobile phones, wristwatches, four hundred US dollars and other valuables estimated at three-point-four-nine-three million naira. An iPhone 7 Plus belonging to one of the victims was recovered, while surviving victims reportedly identified the suspects during an identification parade.

The third case involves one Benjamin Adeniyi, an auxiliary nurse who was arrested for allegedly operating as a medical doctor.

During an interview with Radio Nigeria, Adeniyi admitted that he had been practising since 2022 despite lacking the qualifications and medical training required to practise as a doctor. He was also accused of operating two hospital named LIFE IS GOOD with two branches in olodo and academy areas of Ibadan and providing fertility treatment to patients..

Some of the victims that were invited to the police headquarters to identify the suspects said the suspects subjected them to a lot of torture and also stole property worth millions of naira from them.

Reacting, the command public relations officer DSP Olayinka Ayanlade said investigations into the three separate cases are ongoing, with efforts being intensified to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incidents and apprehend other persons who may be connected with the crimes
