Tanker Accident: Residents Call For Urgent Rehabilitation Of Township Portion Of Oyo-Ogbomoso Rd

Residents of Oyo town have called for urgent rehabilitation of the township portion of the Oyo – Ogbomoso express road to avert further risks to lives and property arising from avoidable crashes.
They made the call while reacting to a tanker accident which occurred at one of the failed locations on the deplorable road, describing the incident as a frequent occurrence especially since the start of the rainy season.
Radio Nigeria correspondents who visited the scene of the lone accident involving a tanker fully loaded with premium motor spirit, PMS, report that it took a combined team of security personnel including soldiers and Amotekun corps to secure the area from infiltration by hoodlums and desperate fuel scavengers.
Some of the scavengers who bombarded the scene were heard discussing plans to take advantage of the situation.
Men of the Federal Fire Service had a hectic time lasting hours working at the scene to ensure safe evacuation of gushing fuel from the fallen tanker.
Inter and intra traffic movement were also disrupted on the road for several hours, leaving some cars and trucks stuck in pools of muddy water.
Some sections of the road have been forcefully closed down to traffic by fallen containers apart from large potholes filled with water, making mockery of compliance with traffic regulations.
Reacting, unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC in Oyo town, Mr. Adeniyi Adeyemi urged motorists and motorcyclists plying the road to exercise great caution and cooperate with his men in ensuring safe passage.
