OYOWMA, Environment Ministry Embark on House-to-House Waste Bin Compliance Exercise
Oyo state Waste Management Authority, OYOWMA and Ministry of environment and water resources Environmental Health Officers in Oyo State have intensified efforts to promote environmental sanitation with a house-to-house waste bin compliance exercise across major communities in Ibadan, including Under Bridge Sawmill, Olaogun, Old Ife Road and the Gbagi axis.
The collaboration was done for the enforcement and sensitisation exercise within the metropolis
The exercise focused on ensuring that households, shops and business premises possess and properly use waste bins in line with the state’s environmental sanitation regulations.
Speaking during the exercise, the Director of Environmental Health Services, Alhaji Aborode Nurudeen said the initiative formed part of the government’s commitment to improving waste management practices and maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment across Oyo State.
He urged residents to embrace proper waste disposal habits by providing standard waste bins for their homes and business premises, stressing that indiscriminate dumping of refuse contributes to blocked drainage channels, flooding and environmental pollution.
According to him, the compliance exercise was not only aimed at enforcement but also at educating residents on the importance of proper waste management and environmental hygiene.
“Our goal is to encourage every household and business to comply with the state’s waste management regulations. Proper use of waste bins is essential to keeping our communities clean and preventing environmental hazards,” he said.
During the door-to-door exercise, environmental officers inspected residential and commercial premises, interacted with residents and business owners, and provided guidance on proper waste storage and disposal.
Some residents welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would promote cleaner neighbourhoods and encourage greater public responsibility towards environmental sanitation.
The officials reiterated that the Oyo State Government remains committed to sustaining regular compliance and awareness campaigns across communities, urging residents to cooperate with environmental officers and support ongoing efforts to create a healthier and more sustainable environment for all.
