Makinde Promises Not To Become Godfather To Successor

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has assured residents that he would not be a godfather to his successor saying he does not want to be seen as an obstacle to new leadership.

Governor Makinde gave the assurance while hosting Muslim community on a Hijrah 1448 Luncheon, held at Banquet hall, Government house, Agodi, Ibadan.

The Governor who said leadership must be about service, not control, urged citizens, especially Muslim communities, to demand accountability, and programmes that would promote development, peace and prosperity from people jostling political offices in the state.

He also challenged his political opponents to tell the people of Oyo State what they intend to do if elected, rather than attempting to discredit the achievements of his administration.

The governor said his administration would continue to prioritize decisions that benefit the state until the end of his tenure,appreciating the people for their support in the last seven years.

The guest lecturer on the occasion, Sheikh Ismail Gbámọláàdá, spoke on the importance of good leadership, emphasizing the need for leaders to govern with integrity, accountability, justice and the interest of the people at heart.

Earlier, Chairman on the occasion, Chief Saka Balogun, called for continuous prayers for the state and the country, urging Muslims and other residents to remain committed to peace, unity and peaceful coexistence.
