Oyo ASUSS Celebrates Successful Rescue Of Oriire Abducted Pupils, Teachers • Wants Diligent Prosecution Of Abductors

The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter, says it received with great joy and relief the news of the successful rescue of the abducted teachers and pupils from Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.


In a statement signed by the state chairman, Comrade Oluwemimo Ranti and secretary, Comrade Ayo Adekunle.

The union commended the unwavering commitment of the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government towards achieving this remarkable success.

It also appreciated the professionalism, courage, and resilience demonstrated by the military and other security operatives throughout the rescue operation.

“Their sacrifices and dedication to safeguarding lives are commendable, and history will undoubtedly remember their noble service.

The union said the abducted teachers and pupils endured several weeks in captivity, facing untold hardship and trauma.

“Today, however, the light of freedom has shone upon them, and we rejoice with their families, colleagues, schools, and the entire people of Oyo State on their safe return.

“We call on the relevant authorities to ensure that all arrested perpetrators are diligently prosecuted in accordance with the law so that justice is served and such criminal acts are effectively deterred.

ASUSS appreciated the collective efforts of the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the military, other security agencies, parents, teachers, traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations, the media, various pressure groups, and every stakeholder who contributed in one way or another to the rescue efforts.

“This successful outcome demonstrates the power of unity, determination, and coordinated action.” It stated

While congratulating the government and the people of Oyo State on this significant achievement, ASUSS strongly urged the government to further strengthen security around schools, particularly those located in rural communities.

“We also call on Parent-Teacher Associations , host communities, and other stakeholders to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Education to ensure that schools remain safe and conducive for teaching and learning all over Oyo State.

“Every attempt to undermine the educational progress of Oyo State must be firmly resisted.

“Together, we must protect our schools and support the educational agenda of the Seyi Makinde administration for the benefit of present and future generations.
