Aresaadu Appeals To Governor Makinde To Halt Alleged Plan To Install Parallel Monarch In Iresaadu

...Attempt To Appoint Parallel Monarch Would Violate The Law, Undermine Traditional Institution

By Seth Omotade

The Aresaadu of Iresaadu in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abraham Olafimihan Adeyeye Oyerinde, has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently intervene and stop an alleged move to appoint a parallel traditional ruler while he remains the substantive occupant of the throne.

The monarch also called on the Governor to approve and release his long-overdue entitlements, askiny that he be allowed to perform the functions of his office, investigate and sanction government officials allegedly responsible for withholding his recognition.

The appeal was made on Friday through his counsel, Barrister Steven Raji, during a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press center in Ibadan.

Barrister Raji alleged that the Oyo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters issued a letter in September 2025 directing the Chairman of Surulere Local Government to commence the process of nominating another Aresaadu on the premise that a court had nullified Oba Adeyeye’s appointment.

According to him, no court has removed the monarch from office.

He maintained that Oba Adeyeye was duly appointed by the Oyo State Government in May 2019 and that subsequent court judgments affirmed his appointment, while legal challenges against his emergence were dismissed.

The solicitor argued that any attempt to appoint another Aresaadu while the monarch remains on the throne would violate the law, create confusion in Iresaadu, and undermine the traditional institution.

He therefore urged Governor Makinde to direct the immediate withdrawal of the alleged letter authorising the nomination of a parallel monarch, restore the monarch’s rights and entitlements, and ensure that officials found to have acted outside the law are held accountable.
