June 12: Oyo Central Accord Senatorial Candidate, Ora’nkan Stresses Need For Good Governance, Promises Purposeful Representation
As Nigerians commemorate Democracy Day, attention has been drawn to the need for renewed hope, security, and good governance amid the nation’s growing challenges.
The June 12 celebration honours the legacy of the 1993 presidential election and pro-democracy heroes, particularly Chief MKO Abiola, while reminding leaders of their responsibility to deliver justice, security, and prosperity.
Despite years of democratic governance, many Nigerians continue to face hardship. Across the country, insecurity remains a major concern, with insurgency in the Northeast, banditry and kidnappings in the Northwest and North-Central regions, as well as farmer-herder clashes and other criminal activities.
In Oyo State and the Oyo Central Senatorial District, residents also grapple with security fears, economic difficulties, poor infrastructure, unemployment, and limited access to quality healthcare and education.
Against this backdrop, Ambassador Shakirullah Jimoh Orankan has been presented as a beacon of hope for the people of Oyo Central.
A diplomat, philanthropist, and humanitarian, Orankan has impacted lives through the Irorun-Ni Charitable Foundation by supporting education, healthcare, farmers, artisans, and vulnerable groups.
His initiatives include the construction of mosques, Islamic schools, hospitals, a School of Science in Iroko, Oyo, and efforts toward establishing a university.
