The Oyo state police command has appealed to the people of Oko Town and Ogbomoso in general to remain calm and go about their lawful business activities.

The command’s Spokesperson, Mr Olayinka Ayanlade made the appeal in a telephone conversation with Radio Nigeria while reacting to the rumours of planned bandit attacks on schools in the town.

Mr Ayanlade disclosed that some of those spreading the fake news within Oko and its neighbouring towns have been arrested.

He urged the people of Oko to report anyone caught spreading fake news to the law enforcement agencies for prompt action.
Radio Nigeria correspondent in the town gathered that the majority of schools both primary and secondary closed around noon in Oko when the rumours of the planned Bandit attack flittered in.
Parents and guardians rushed to various schools to withdraw their children and wards as a result of the fake news.
Also, traders at Oko market disappeared within a twinkle of an eye when they saw students going home in their large numbers.
However, Ogbomoso Town where the fake news was said to have been emanated remained peaceful when Radio Nigeria reporter visited the town.
Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso were seen writing their examination.
