One Feared Dead, Property Destroyed In Ibadan Midnight Accident

Millions of naira worth of goods were destroyed in a fire outbreak which followed an accident involving three trucks loaded with goods on Ibadan end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to report, an unidentified male truck driver was reportedly burnt to death in the accident.

The accident, which occurred at about 2 o clock on Wednesday, 22nd January, 2025, at Fijabi Junction along the Agbowo-Ojoo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, led to a fire outbreak in two of the trucks, causing a power outage in Agbowo and Orogun communities.

During a visit to the scene, it was observed that the accident threw many residents of Agbowo and Orogun into a state of fear as the inferno intensified.

Residents in the area told Radio Nigeria that the road diversion, which forced vehicles to use one lane due to ongoing construction work on the highway, led to one of the vehicles loaded with diesel losing control and colliding with other trucks.

In an interview, the lead team of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mrs. Omowunmi Ogunkambi, stated that the fire had been brought under control.

As at the time of filing this report, vehicle spare parts conveyed by one of the trucks littered the road at the scene of the accident.

The accident scene, located on the ever busy Ibadan end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, has been the site of numerous vehicular accidents, resulting in significant loss of life and leaving many survivors with permanent injuries.

Meanwhile, the charred remains of the unidentified male truck driver who was burnt to death in the accident has been evacuated.

The deceased assistant popularly called “motorboy” with severe burnt injuries sustained from the accident had been taken to the University College Hospital, U.C.H, by the police.
