Panelists at a day programme on sensitization on gender based violence, GBV, organized for secondary students in Oyo town want victims to always report any case of assault to appropriate quarters.
The panelists which comprised ASP Funke Ayemigbara from the police, ASP Hello Bolanle from Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps, representative of the commissioner of Justice, Mrs Dupe Awosemusi, a legal Practitioner, medical professional, government officials including the head of service of Oyo State, Mrs Olubunmi Oni as the leader of the panelist made this known at the programme organized by the wife of Oyo state governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde.
The panelists noted that GBV was beyond sexual abuse but included bullying, name calling and inappropriate touching, noting that abuse was not limited to girls alone but also involved the opposite sex
Two of the panelists, the state’s commissioner for special duties, Alhaja Joke Sanni and ASP Funke Ayemigbara explained that it was the right of the victims to report to the right authorities assuring them that their report would be handled with utmost confidentiality.
Also speaking, Dr Adesoji Adeyanju, a former permanent secretary in Oyo state said certified medical experts would help with the proper documentation, noting that the perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law, hence the need to report such act to the hospital without any delay.
Mrs Makinde in a remark called on all stakeholders in the society to unite by supporting victims of gender based violence in order to rehabilitate them, for them to live a normal life devoid of stigmatization and trauma.

Two of the students at the programme Adeosun Dorcas from St Bernadine’s girls Grammar School and Julius Oladeji from Durbah Grammar School promised not to be silent when they noticed anything that can affect them now or in the future.
The programme featured walk against Gender based violence with people carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Say no to rape, stop domestic violence, Oyo state frowns at gender based violence
The programme was organized to commemorate this year’s 16 days of activism against Gender based violence .
