BESDA: Non-Formal Learners Incorporated Into Formal Schools, Oyo SUBEB Commends Initiative

The Intensive Literacy Initiative of the Better Education Service Delivery for All program (BESDA) has mainstreamed some non-formal learners into formal schools, and the Oyo State Government has expressed its excitement about this development.

Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, executive chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, praised the recent development while on a verification tour of the 21 Local Government Areas in Oyo State that are adopting BESDA.

Considering that the students were evaluated before being admitted to official schools, he claimed that this is a kind of testimony for both the teachers and the government.

“This is a big plus for us in Oyo State. It shows that BESDA is working for us. Though we do not have the actual figure yet, some non-formal learning centres we visited in certain local governments affirmed that some of their learners have been mainstreamed”, Adeniran boasted.

According to Dr. Adeniran, the Oyo State Government wants to see the majority of students receiving non-formal education admitted into elementary schools.

Prof. Modupe Adelabu, the BESDA Consultant for Oyo State who also oversaw the verification process in some Local Government Areas, praised the remarkable turnout of BESDA in Oyo State in her remarks.
