Ogun Monarch Arraigned In Court Over Alleged Fraud

The Olu of Obafe in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Taofeek Olukayode, has been arraigned before the Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta on charges of alleged fraud, conspiracy, and assault on a law enforcement officer.

The traditional ruler allegedly defrauded one Dr. Michael Adeyemi of 75 million naira through a fraudulent land deal involving 500 hectares of land in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, between September 18, 2023, and August 20, 2024.

The State’s Counsel, Mr Timilehin Oredein alleged that the 75 million naira was paid for the land, known to the monarch as part of a fraudulent scheme, thereby violating Section 419 of the Ogun State Criminal Code Law of 2006.

He also accused the monarch of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer identified as Oriade David, during his apprehension on October 21, 2024, which led to the destruction of the officer’s eyeglasses, valued at N8,500, in violation of Section 356 of the Criminal Code law.

The court had granted Oba Olukayode bail in the sum of 10 million naira with two sureties of equal value and the case was adjourned to November 25, 2024
