The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised its personnel to abstain from acting in a way that could result in legal action being taken against the corps.
FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer (ZCO) in Charge of Oyo, Osun, and Ondo, ACM Uakhemen Ojeamiren, issued the warning on Thursday while paying a formal visit to the corps’ Oyo State Sector Command.
He said that numerous legal actions had already been brought against the Commission as a result of deeds committed by its employees while performing their duties.
Ojeamiren expressed the displeasure of the Acting Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu with the development and counseled the staff to head off any unpleasant situations before they get out of hand.
In order to prevent conflicts and legal action against the corps, the zonal commanding officer also reminded the officers to always act civilly when engaging with drivers on the road.
“Most disputes escalate because we are unable to find a way around it at the initial stage, try as much as possible to be civil in your activities, be comport in your operation and play by the rules.
“We have operational guidelines and you must work in tandem with it with a view to minimising litigation against the corps,” Ojeamiren said.
The ZCO also appealed to motorists to always obey rules and regulations and stop whenever FRSC officials flag them down.
“It is better for you to stop and hear what they want to say, it may be that they want to give you information that criminals are ahead and if you don’t stop you could work into the hands of those criminals,” he said.
Ojeamiren applauded DCC Olalekan Morakinyo, the state’s FRSC head of operations, for his efforts to train the personnel assigned to work on the road.
Joshua Adekanye, the FRSC sector commander in the state, thanked the Zonal Commanding Officer for his visit and emphasized the command’s accomplishments as well as its difficulties that need immediate attention.
Adekanye reported that 57 criminals in all were detained during the recently completed Special Operation, including right-drivers and those operating vehicles with foreign or faded license plates.
According to him, the operation would soon be expanded to include all of the state’s locations, including Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso, and Oyo town.
The sector commander urged all unregistered motorbike riders to do so in order to avoid having their vehicles impounded.
