The arrest of two Chiefs by operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS, during a court sitting in Ogun State and the subsequent chaos, leading to the disruption of activities on the court premises have continued to generate reactions.
Those who witnessed the incident at the State High Court Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of the state said there was pandemonium as people panicked and scampered for safety when the hooded, gun wielding men, numbering about 8 stormed the courtroom to make the arrest.
Speaking on the incident, the Principal Registrar of the High Court and Sectional Head of High Court, Ilaro, Mr Omololu Olusanya who described the incident as shocking and disrespectful to the rule of law alleged that the judge had earlier advised the operatives not to make any arrest within the court premises.
Mr Olusanya claimed that the men who were dressed in black with nothing to indicate their identity as DSS officers had earlier approached the judge to state their mission of coming to make arrests, but were told to wait till after Court session.
He maintained that, rather than comply with the Judge’s directives, the armed men disrupted proceedings and forcefully arrested two defendants in the hearing of a case involving a crisis that occurred in Agosasa town in Ipokia local government area of the State, causing the court to adjourn due to the noise.
Meanwhile, Counsel to the arrested Chiefs, Mr Kehinde Bamiwola alleged in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta that the duo of Alhaji Fatai Isiaka and Chief Samuel Oyero as well as another Court official were assaulted by the operatives.
