The newly elected local government chairmen in Oyo State have been advised to deliver more dividends of democracy to the electorate for them not to regret about mandate given to them.
The Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, Aare Isiaka Olagunju gave the advice during the presentation of Certificates of Return to the 33 newly elected local government chairmen and vice chairmen at the commission’s headquarters, Agodi Ibadan.
Aare Olagunju stressed that the council bosses are the representatives of the people and government at the grassroots level, hence the need for them to ensure good governance.
“People have given you mandate; they reposed confidence in you. Always have it in mind that you are the peoples representatives in government. Strive to deliver dividends of democracy.” Olagunju advised.
Aare Olagunju, who noted that the 2024 local government election was well planned, conducted under peaceful atmosphere commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his support to commission towards the successful conduct of the poll.
According to Aare Olagunju, “we expressed gratitude to God that no life was lost before, during and after the election, the media, security, the Inter-party Advisory Council, IPAC and staff of the commission for a job well done.”
The OYSIEC Chairman, who acknowledged that there may be hitches in some aspects of the election management, urged the people to give any noticed infraction, stating that the growth and development of the pace setter state should be paramount.
In an interview, the Chairman, IPAC in Oyo State, Otunba Adegbenro Fagbemi said the election was well conducted, pointing out that the council monitored the seamless distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials to all OYSIEC local government offices.
Otunba Adegbenro attributed glitches at polling units to restriction of vehicular movements and fuel scarcity, calling on politicians and the electorate to support the winners of the election for good governance.
The newly elected chairmen, Ibadan North West, Alhaji Rahman Adepoju and his Akinyele local government counterpart, Mr. Ayobami Akinleye promised to key into Omituntun 2.0 mantra to develop the grassroots.
