Ibadan Explosion: Council Of Obas Schedules Meeting With Makinde
The Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs says it has planned to meet with the governor of the state, engineer Seyi Makinde next week Tuesday, 23rd January, 2024, to further discuss security matters especially at the community level.
The council, in a statement signed by the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon and Deputy Chairman, Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, said members will come up with suggestions to the government on practical ways to prevent a recurrence of the Tuesday’s Explosion in Ibadan in the future.
He said a communique shall be issued at the end of the meeting.
The council however commiserated with the Oyo state government and the victims of the explosion that claimed lives and destroyed property at Adeyi Area of Bodija, Ibadan and it’s environs.
The statement reads in part:
The statement read: “The Council is deeply touched by the sad incident which claimed three lives and injured 77 persons, according to official announcements. Our prayers are with the victims, the bereaved and those who lost their expensive properties to the explosion.
“The Council commends Governor Makinde for his swift response including setting up of Emergency Response Team, assurance of paying the medical bills of all injured persons in the explosion and immediate mobilization of rescuers and security personnel to the site to manage the situation.
“Arising from the sad incident, the Council plans to have a meeting with His Excellency, Governor Makinde, on Tuesday, 23 January, 2024 over security breaches in communities during which members will come up with suggestions to the government on practical ways to prevent a recurrence of this kind of ugly situation in the future.
“May the Eledumare protect all our subjects across the lengthy and breath of Oyo State,” the statement added.
