Rift In Oyo NAWOJ As Members Sack Exco • Actions Baseless, Illegal – Jadesola Reacts

A twist of fresh crisis brewed out in the Oyo State chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ as a group of women journalists under the aegis of concerned 50 members of NAWOJ in Oyo state of NUJ dissolved the Jadesola Ajibola-led executive of the Association.

The 50 members, after a three hours meeting at the Dapo Aderogba hall of the NUJ press centre in Iyaganku, passed a vote of no confidence on the executive, alleging it of gross misconduct , hiring of fake journalists as well as unethical and unprofessional conduct.

They however inaugurated three member caretaker committee headed by Bola Okanlawon (State Ministry of Information Chapel) as Chairperson while both Josephine Oluwabunmi of BCOS Chapel and Oluwayemisi Owonikoko of FRCN chapel are Secretary and member, respectively to pilot the affairs of the association

The meeting was attended by NAWOJ leaders including former Chairperson; ex-State and national officers and members in Oyo State across chapels of the union with resolutions of the emergency NAWOJ congress forwarded to the NUJ National Secretariat; NAWOJ National Secretariat; Oyo State NUJ; State Labour Unions; Police Commissioner, Director of DSS and all the media houses.

Jadesola Ajibola, in a reaction, said the purported dissolve by concerned 50 members of NAWOJ in Oyo state of NUJ were illegal and baseless.

Ajibola who said no group or section of NAWOJ carried the “Concerned 50 Members” as a nomenclature, insisted that the so called members lacked the power to dissolve the Oyo NAWOJ democratically constituted executives.

Ajibola said the long list of names who purportedly signed the resolutions were not financial members of NAWOJ, Oyo state and were not recognized by the union.

Speaking on the stand of the NUJ Oyo state Council, the state secretary, Olusola Oladapo in a chat noted that the “Concerned 50 Members of NAWOJ in Oyo State of NUJ” was justified by their actions saying, Jadesola Ajibola-led executive remained dissolved.

He explained that the Congress set up an ethics and disciplinary committee to solve issues of professional practice but the suspended NAWOJ chairperson, snubbed its invitation and dissociated herself from NUJ through a letter sent through a lawyer.
