The Lawmaker representing Oluyole State constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Waheed Akintayo has expressed deepest shock over the sudden demise of a veteran broadcaster, Mr Babatunde Olaniyi whose death occurred on Thursday 14th September, 2023.
The lawmaker made this known in a condolence message when he visited the family of the deceased.
Hon. Akintayo said he was jolted by the news of his death considering the fact that late Babatunde Olaniyi popularly called ‘Ti o Common’ was a seasoned broadcaster who has used his God given talent and creativity to captivate both listeners and viewers alike with his ground breaking radio and tv programmes.
According to the statement, “I remember with nostalgia that while I was under his tutelage, the late Ti o Common, as fondly called, made tremendous impacts on the people through his numerous programmes he anchored, especially programmes code-named, ‘Kaaro o Jiire’ on OGTV, “Sokutuwowo” and Eejiire bi’ on Premier FM, ‘Miliki express’ on Oluyole FM, Oke Mapo, ‘Iroyin Olongo & ‘Iroyin tio common’ on Radio Nigeria Ore Arailu, ‘Ayekooto on 32FM and Iwe kobo on Petals FM, which held sway for long and indeed brought much peace to many communities in Ogun, Oyo and other States beyond.
I saw in him a boss who was a bundle of talent and knowledge, a motivator, industrious and unassuming personality.
He showcased his commitment to public service with his exceptional broadcasting skills when he was appointed as the Special Assistant on Electronic Media to late Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his immense contributions to the field of broadcasting cannot be under estimated.
“Therefore, on behalf of my self and members of Oluyole State constituency, I express our deepest sympathies to the media industry especially broadcast media, members of his immediate family, our professional colleagues, and the entire members of pen profession in Oyo State. The vacuum left behind by his death would be difficult to fill.” He said.
Hon. Akintayo who is also a broadcaster turned politician, and presently, the Chairman House Committee on Information, Media, Public Affairs and ICT respectively, prayed Almighty God to grant his immediate family members and the media industry the fortitude, to bear the huge loss and grant his soul eternal rest.
