In a world where people, particularly youths, always seek to achieve more in life but frequently fail to fulfil their set goals and aspirations as a result of overwhelming distractions in all forms, this made it imperative and major concern for Paragon Pearls Initiatives to address the societal menace.
Against this backdrop, an industry thought leader, accomplished chartered accountant and taxation guru, Dr. Anthonia Alebiosu has proffered workable solutions for young and success-driven individuals who seek to become their best self in today’s ever-distractive world.
Speaking as a guest speaker at the Paragon Pearls Initiatives series tagged Incorruptible Woman with the topic “Becoming Your Best Self in a Noisy World”, Dr. Anthonia explained that the ‘Best-Self’ phase is subjective, and it also changes periodically until someone reaches the crescendo of his desire.
According to Dr. Anthonia, attaining the best version of one’s self is taking total control of one’s life in spite all forms of distractions that prevent one from being who he wants to be, adding that distractions could be economic, political, racism, ethnic bias, financial instability.
Sharing tips on how to become one’s best self in a noisy world, Anthonia stressed the need of writing out goals to be achieved, saying it makes accomplishment to be specific, and its power can’t be underestimated.
““You don’t set unrealistic or unsustainable goals for yourself. Write down your goals, one, five, ten years’ plan, and gradually you will find out that you will begin to achieve them. Make your goals SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely, for them to be achievable.”
“Improve your concentration and eliminate any form of distraction while you are being prayerful. You need to also identify your strengths and build on them using SWOT analysis. People need to identify their weaknesses and work on them to achieve those set goals.
Charging participants to be focused on their successful pursuit, the chartered taxation fellow said they should choose their association appropriately and be among those that would support their dreams.
In her words, “Fix your eyes on the prize (goals) and surround yourselves with people who can help you achieve those goals. You choose your association appropriately, be friends with people that will support your dreams. People that will pull you up, not those that will drag you down.
“You also cannot underestimate the power of mentorship and be open to learning irrespective of who you are getting them from. You have to be dedicated, committed, and consistency is very important.
“Move away from multi-tasking to prioritizing. If you can provide your goals to what is important and what is urgent, you will not miss it. Acquire the skills that will distinguish you from others and you need to position yourself for breakthroughs, having an edge over your cohorts”, she added.
She further encouraged participants to start implementing their plans now, noting that they cannot get to where they are going without starting.
She said, “You need to start first. A step at a time. Avoid putting yourself under pressure and take each day as they come with your goal in mind and ensure that you guide your goals with jealousy.
