Political Big wigs, candidates in the 2023 general elections, government functionaries, traditional rulers, members of the academia, family, friends and well wishers of late governor of Oyo state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi on Friday converged on the University of Ibadan for annual senator Abiola Ajimobi roundtable and 73rd posthumous birthday.
Present at the event which has its theme as, “Deepening Nigeria’s democracy for sustainable development”, were minister of youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, Governorship candidates of APC in Oyo state, Teslim Folarin, Accord, Adebayo Adelabu, Former deputy governor of Oyo state, Moses Alake, Ondo state deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Former commissioner for finance, Zacch Adelabu traditional rulers, captains of industry and political appointees under late governor Ajimobi’s administration.
Lead paper presenter, Professor Eghosa Osaghae who spoke on the theme noted that for democracy to be deepened in Nigeria, it must provide genuine people centered policies that would sustain sustainable development.
Professor Osaghae also hinted that a democracy that grows is the one that develops people through provision of employment, basic amenities and fundamental human rights.
Earlier in an address, minister of youth and Sports, Sunday Dare said the impact the former Governor of Oyo state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi had on the country’s political scene would be evergreen.
Wife of the Former Governor of Oyo state, Dr Florence Ajimobi stated that it was time to reflect on the Nation’s democratic and developmental requirements, especially as the 2023 General Elections draw nearer.
